Students will assemble multiple floral components using glass support techniques, with a focus on strong welds and connections. Open to all levels.

This class will run July 18th-20th from 10am-6pm daily with a lunch break midday.

Salem Art Works is a nonprofit art center and sculpture park located in rural upstate New York. Its Festival of Fire is now in its twelfth year and celebrates all media found & forged in fire. Students from across the nation will come together to share techniques, ideas and resources in iron casting, ceramics, glass blowing as well as blacksmithing.
The Glass Workshop will be led by guest artist team Grant and Erin Garmezy, during the 2018 Intercollegiate Festival of Fire. Learn how to utilize flame-worked glass components and the "ins and outs" of hot sculpting glass in a collaborative, team-oriented manner in Salem Art Works glass studio. This intensive workshop will include demonstrations and hands-on activities throughout the weekend!

Festival of Fire registration is $125 per person; includes camping and meals

From the Furnace to the Flame
Capturing the smallest details in glass can open the door to a whole new world. This mantra is what husband and wife team Grant and Erin Garmezy have been exploring their entire career. Students will learn various hot sculpting techniques both in the hotshop and flameworking studios. From inside sculpting, to solid sculpting, texture techniques, garage work, color application, and ways to combine both flameworking and hotshop techniques seamlessly in the studio. Come ready to be jolted with energy and new found passion that will bring life to both you and your work.

Explore the world of flameworking and sculpting with glass. You’ll learn basic sculpting and forming techniques for borosilicate glass on the torch and gain an understanding of welds and connections by constructing flowers and other organic forms.
This class will be co-taught with artist Kristi Totoritis. Erin will teach the first 4 class sessions, and Kristi will teach the last 4 classes.
Grant and I visited Kent State University’s Center for the Visual Arts to teach a collaborative summer intensive glassblowing and flameworking workshop. We were honored to share our story during the Blossom Art Lecture Series, a rich visual art program inviting accomplished artists from around the country to Kent State since 1968.

Grant and Erin will be teaching simultaneous courses at Cleveland Institute of Art. Grant's course will focus in hot glass sculpting in the hotshop, while Erin's course will focus on flameworking. Collaboration between the two studios is encouraged!

Explore the potential of working with hot glass as a sculptural medium.
This class will focus on special techniques and approaches to solid and blown sculpting that can take your work to the next level by demonstrating the range and freedom the material has and showing its true potential. We will bring sculptures to life using a variety of torches and sculpting techniques, which include solid sculpting, inside sculpting, bit building, color application, garage use, and most importantly, teamwork. Problem-solving will be emphasized. You are encouraged to bring in images of forms you are interested in creating.

I'm freaking out just a little that our piece "Dessert Blossom" made it on the cover of Glass Art Magazine! Inside there's a great article about Grant, and I'm insanely proud of him. I'm also pretty stoked that they included this picture of the two of us where we're trying to be all bad-ass, and it's both awesome and hilarious, in my opinion. Honestly, though -
Grant and I will be visiting artists at Mind Blown Glass Studio in Deadwood, South Dakota September 4th through 11th, 2016.
We're stoked to hang with Toni Gerlach for the week and make some incredible glass with her. We think the western landscape will be right up our alley. My cowboy boots are already packed!
